Step-by-step instructions to make a Chair using APT Techniques Photos from Russia and UK
Start by layering up cardboard to make the flat pieces (2 sides, the back, the seat and 2 seat supports). Then you will need to press these boards and leave to dry. See information below.

Steps for making boards
The AIM is to have some strong flat pieces to make into a piece of furniture
You will need
· 2 heaped tablespoons of flour. Flour can be wheat or very finely-ground maize.
· Mix with about 100mls of cold water until free of lumps, like smooth cream.
· Add about 400mls of rapidly boiling water quickly, while continuing to stir.
- Use the first piece of corrugated cardboard (of a large but manoeuvrable size) as the base or template. Place out other pieces on top to make 3 or 4 layers (so there are 6 layers of corrugations). The corrugations of the boards should run in alternate directions.
The number of pieces depends on the cardboard and the size of the person using the stool or piece of furniture- have enough stacked on top of each other together so that the thickness of each piece comes to about 2 cm. The pieces will dry flatter if the corrugations of each layer run across the width or across the length in alternately.
2. When you are happy with all the cut pieces place the layers for each piece together. Rub a thin layer of paste on each side of the layers where they will attach to each other. Put the pieces together and press.
3. Place some sheets of dry newspaper under the layered pieces with some more dry newspaper on top. Finally place a flat board or table upside-down on this making sure it covers the whole piece. This ensures the pasted layers will stick together and dry FLAT. If necessary put some weight like some books on top.
PRESSING
N.B. Open up to check and air the layered pieces for half an hour or so each day. Change the newspaper every day until the layered pieces are flat and dry boards.
